In short
Handoff sends the open project to someone by email. A developer gets repository access on their own branch and opens it in Code (or their own editor, once you approve). A non-technical partner gets it in Visual, with no Git and no terminal. Your version stays yours.
Open it from the account menu, Handoff (with a project open), or Settings, Handoff. The full walkthrough is in Handoff and invites; this page has the developer's details.
What happens on your side
- The brief. Piye writes
HANDOFF.mdfrom the project's facts (your asks in Visual and Code chats, type check and lint results, environment keys by name only, TODO, FIXME and HACK comments, open steps ofPLAN.md, recent commits and unsaved changes), worded by one agent pass on your AI. Your own notes go in word for word. Without AI set up, it's made from the facts alone. - The repository. The first send connects your own GitHub through Piye's GitHub App (installed once, on your account), then pushes a snapshot to a private repository there. Your branch, index and remote are untouched; unsaved work is included.
- What's left out.
.envfiles, keys and certificates never go. If the history ever held a secret, the project goes without its history..piye/memory(your chats) never goes. - The invite. An email to them, with a link valid for 3 days.
What happens on their side
- A developer accepts the invite and gets a clone on a branch made for them,
piye/<their name>, opening in Code withHANDOFF.mdfirst. To use their own editor (VS Code, Cursor, Zed), they ask from the invite page and you approve in Handoff. - A partner opens the project in Visual and works through Piye's agent.
Their work back
They press Send your work in Handoff. You see it there and choose Get their work; review the changes in Source Control before you keep them. If newer work of yours is already on the repository from another computer, Handoff leaves it as it is.
Access
Handoff lists everyone you invited, with their repository access and what they sent you. Remove someone and they lose access to the repository straight away; their local copy stays with them. New link replaces an expired one.
