The layout

Note

Shortcuts in these pages are shown for a Mac. On Windows and Linux, use Ctrl where a Mac uses Cmd. The keyboard shortcuts page lists both.

The Code window with a project open
The Explorer, the editor, the terminal below it, and the Code agent on the right.

From top to bottom, left to right:

  1. The title bar, across the top.
  2. The side panel on the left, with the Explorer and the other views.
  3. The editor in the middle.
  4. The bottom panel: Problems, Output, Debug Console, Terminal and Ports.
  5. The right panel: the Code agent and Operations.

The title bar

PartWhat it does
Back and forwardMove through the places you've been in the code (Ctrl- and CtrlShift- on a Mac, AltLeft and AltRight elsewhere).
ProjectThe open folder. Click to open another.
Visual and CodeSwitch Piye's side, on the same project.
Piye StudioOpen the window for agents across all your projects.
Right panel viewsShow Operations only, the agent only, or both side by side.
MarketplaceFind and connect MCP servers. See MCP and the Marketplace.
Account menuYour plan and credits, the last 14 days of AI use, Account, Handoff, AI, your outside agents (Claude Code, Codex) and Open Settings.

On a window with no project open, the bar shows only the Visual and Code switch, the Marketplace and your account.

The side panel

The name at the top of the side panel (for example Explorer ▾) is a menu: click it to switch view.

Shortcuts open the main views directly: Explorer CmdShiftE, Search CmdShiftF, Source Control CtrlShiftG (Mac), Run and Debug CmdShiftD, Marketplace CmdShiftX. CmdB shows or hides the side panel.

The editor

Tabs along the top, with splits side by side (Cmd\). Above the code, a path bar shows where you are in the file and its symbols. See The editor.

The bottom panel

TabWhat it shows
ProblemsErrors and warnings from the language servers, type checks and linters, with a filter.
OutputLogs from Piye's tools and language servers, by channel.
Debug ConsoleThe running program's console while debugging.
TerminalYour terminals. See Terminal.
PortsPorts your running programs listen on: open them in Piye's browser or your own.

Show or hide it with Ctrl` on every computer; the X closes it, and a tab on the window edge brings it back.

The right panel

The right panel holds the Code agent (CmdShiftA toggles it, Cmd3 focuses it) and Operations (CmdShiftO). Show either one, or both split.

Rearrange it

  • Hide a side panel with the tab on its inner edge; bring it back from the tab on the window edge where it was. The controls follow a panel wherever you dragged it.
  • Drag a panel by its top edge to swap it with another.
  • Pull a panel into its own window: the agent, Operations and the terminal can each live in a separate window (drag them off, or use their pull-off button; CmdShiftT pulls off the terminal). Bring back returns them.
  • Reset Workbench Layout (command palette) puts everything back.

Window layouts

Settings, Window & Layout, Window Layout:

  • Editor + Panels: the editor with the Explorer, agent and terminal (the layout once a folder is open).
  • Editor Only: the empty canvas before a folder is open.
  • Agent Focus: keeps the chat and hides the Explorer and terminal.

Interface size (Settings, General) draws Piye's own screens smaller or larger, without changing your code's font size.
