Follow the code
- Go to definition: Cmd + click a name, or press F12.
- Find All References: ShiftF12 lists every place that uses it.
- Rename Symbol: F2 renames it everywhere it's used, across files.
- Hover a name to see its type and documentation.
- References above functions (CodeLens) show how many places use a function or a class; click to see them.
- Inline hints show parameter names and types faintly inside the code.
These come from each language's server. See Languages and code intelligence for which languages support what.
Outline and breadcrumbs
- The Outline section of the Explorer lists the symbols of the open file: click one to jump.
- The path bar above the editor shows the file's folder path and the symbol you're in. Focus Breadcrumbs (CmdShift.) lets you move through it with the keyboard.
Back and forward
Piye remembers where you've been: Go Back (Ctrl- on a Mac, AltLeft elsewhere) and Go Forward (CtrlShift- on a Mac, AltRight elsewhere), also in the title bar.
The file's history
The Timeline section of the Explorer shows the open file's history, from source control.
