Start a new project
When no project is open, or when you choose Start new project in the project menu at the top left, Piye asks What are we building?
On this card you can:
- Describe your idea in the big box: your own words, as long or short as you like.
- Add your logo, photos, documents or spreadsheets, or drop them onto the box.
- Open Templates, 80 ready ideas to start from. See Templates.
- Open Advanced settings to choose the name, look, languages, platforms and how Piye builds. See New project options.
- Or, at the top, Open an existing folder (an app already on your computer, made with Piye or not) or Import from GitHub (a project from your GitHub account, or from this computer).
When you're ready, press Create Project. The button also says how Piye will start, for example "Architect first".
Write it the way you'd tell a friend
You don't need special words. Say who it's for, what they do, and what matters to you. For example:
A booking app for my barbershop. Customers pick a barber, a service and a time, and pay a €10 deposit. Barbers see their day. I want reminders by email the day before, and a simple page where I see bookings and money for the week.
What helps Piye build what you mean:
- Who uses it. Customers, staff, an admin (you). If different people see different things, say so.
- What they do. Book, buy, post, chat, track, learn. The main journeys, in order.
- What it keeps. Products, bookings, members, orders.
- Money. Whether people pay, how much, once or every month.
- The feel. "Calm and premium", "playful", "like a modern bank app". Mention apps or sites you like.
- Where. A website, a phone app, or both.
Don't worry about getting it perfect. You can change everything later, by asking.
Add what you already have
Use Add your logo, photos, documents or spreadsheets (or drag files onto the box):
- Your logo and photos, so the app uses them.
- Documents and spreadsheets: a business plan, a menu, a price list, a product catalogue. Piye reads them when it makes the project. A Google Sheets link works too.
- Screenshots, which you can mark up to point at what you like.
A design to follow (a Figma, Framer, Canva or Webflow file, or a website you love) goes under Advanced settings, Design.
What happens when you create it
It depends on How Piye builds it, in Advanced settings:
- Architect first (recommended when the idea is short): Piye plans the pages, what the app keeps and how people move through it, with you, in the chat. You change what you want, then send it to be built.
- Build right away: Piye plans and builds the whole app in one go, and you watch it appear in the preview.
When the build finishes, Piye opens every screen and fixes what's broken, then tells you in plain words what it made and how to try it, with a demo account to sign in with.
If your idea is a portfolio, a blog, a CV or a site of articles, you can mark it as a Simple site (Advanced settings, Platforms & stack): light and fast, with no sign-in, database or payments.
Tip
If you write out the pages and the information your app keeps, Piye can build right away. If your idea is just a sentence, Architect first gets you a better app.
