What it does
Phone verification asks a person for their phone number and sends them a code by text message. They type the code in your app, and their number is marked as verified on their account. It's useful when you need to reach people by phone, or want to make fake accounts harder.
Ask for it in the chat, for example "verify the customer's phone number before their first booking".
While you build
Codes don't go to real phones while you build. They land in the Outbox, where you read the code and type it in the preview.
Going live: your Twilio account
Text messages for your live app go through your own account at Twilio, a messaging service.
- Sign in to Twilio, or create an account.
- On Twilio's console home page, copy the Account SID (it starts with
AC) and the Auth Token. - Paste both into Piye.
Piye then makes the verification service and a key of its own for your app. Your Auth Token isn't kept.
Note
A Twilio trial account only sends texts to the numbers you verify in Twilio. Upgrade it in Twilio for your app to text everyone. Twilio charges for each text: see Twilio's prices for your country.
