What you need
A domain is your web address, like yourshop.com. You buy it from a domain company (a "registrar"), usually for a yearly fee. If you don't have one yet, Get one in Piye opens Vercel's domain page, or use any domain company you like.
Connecting a domain in Piye works when your app is published on Vercel. With other hosts, add the domain in the host's own dashboard; Piye shows a button to open it.
Connect your domain
- Open Publish and find Your own domain (also in Settings, Publishing).
- Type your domain, for example
yourshop.com, and add it. You can do this before you publish for the first time: Piye connects it as soon as the app is online. - Piye shows the settings to copy where you bought the domain: usually one or two lines called records, each with a type, a name and a value. Piye has a copy button for each.
- At your domain company, open the domain's DNS settings (sometimes called "DNS records" or "Manage DNS") and add those records exactly. Some companies call the name field Host.
- Come back to Piye. It checks the records by itself and ticks each one when it sees it.
Changes to a domain's records can take from a few minutes to a few hours to reach everyone.
When it's live
Your domain becomes your app's address only once it's fully working: the records are in place and it answers securely over https (the padlock in the browser). Until then, your app keeps its free address, so nothing breaks while you wait.
Take a domain off
In Your own domain, remove it from your app. The domain stays yours, at your domain company; it just no longer points to this app.
Tip
Want email from the same address, like hello@yourshop.com? Your email service checks the domain too. See Email.
