Your app, running
The Preview tab shows your real app, running on your computer: every link works, forms send, sign-in signs in. What you see is what your customers will get.
The preview starts when you press Launch, and by itself right after a build. Until then it says "Not running" and which kind of app it will run. Stop turns it off, and Logs shows what the app itself is saying.
Screen sizes
Switch between Desktop, Tablet and Phone to see how your website looks on each. On Tablet and Phone you can:
- pick a device (for example a recent iPhone or Android phone), or set a custom size;
- rotate it;
- see it in Light, Dark, or Follow the system.
For phone apps, the preview shows your app in a phone frame. To run it on real iPhone and Android simulators or on your own phone, see Phones on your computer and Try it on your phone.
Foldable phones
Choose Foldable to see your app on foldable phones: an iPhone and a Samsung foldable side by side, folded shut (the cover screen), half open (bent at the hinge) or opened flat.
Use it like a customer
Click through your app as a visitor would. While you build, Piye's services make sign-in, emails, payments and text messages work without any accounts of yours:
- emails and text-message codes your app sends land in the Outbox, not in anyone's real inbox;
- payments use Stripe's test mode: pay with Stripe's test card
4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date and any three digits; - a demo account is ready for signing in, shown in the chat after a build.
When something goes wrong
Piye watches the preview while you use it. If a page crashes, a form fails or the app reports an error, a card says Piye caught a problem. Press Fix what Piye caught and Piye fixes it.
To see what the app itself is saying (for a developer, or for Piye's support), open Logs.
More controls
- Open in browser opens the same running app in your usual browser.
- Which app: if your project has several apps (a website and a phone app, for example), choose which one to preview.
- Visual Edit turns on clicking to change things directly. See Visual Edit.
Note
The preview runs on your computer only. Nobody else can see it until you publish.
