History and undo

Every change to your app is saved on your computer as a step you can go back to. Here is how to look back and undo.

On this page

Every change is a step

Each time Piye changes your app (a build, a change you asked for, a fix) and each time you save edits from Visual Edit, the change is saved as a step on your computer. Nothing is ever lost: you can always go back.

The Timeline

Open the Timeline with its button in Visual. It lists every change to your app, newest first, back to where it started.

  • Open a step to see what changed.
  • Undo a step to take your app back to how it was before it.

Tip

Undo is safe to try. Going back is itself saved as a step, so you can change your mind again.

If a later change builds on the step you want to undo, Piye says that step can't be undone on its own. Undo the later steps first, newest first.

The history is private

The Timeline is kept with Git, the same history system developers use, inside your project on your computer. You don't need a GitHub account for it, and nobody else sees it. If you later connect the project to GitHub, or hand it to a developer, the same history goes with it.

Visual Edit

Edits you make with Visual Edit become steps too, once you save them to code. Edits you haven't saved yet are simply dropped when you turn Visual Edit off.

With a developer

When a developer works on your project, their changes reach you as normal project changes too, and they keep the full history in source control. See Bring in a developer.
